Who We Are

Ian Parkinson has more than 30 years experience in broadcasting and the media. Ian reported for the BBC from Europe, East Africa, the United States and the former Soviet Union; and for several years was the presenter of Newsbeat on Radio 1. He worked on the Today programme and was an editor on the launch team for Radio Five Live.

In 1997, he joined Radio 1 as Managing Editor.  For ten years, he was a core member of the network’s management team, transforming Radio 1 into a leading youth brand.  Ian was also responsible for devising, establishing and leading the digital black music station 1Xtra from launch.  Since leaving the BBC, he has worked as a coach, trainer and consultant for a range of clients — including independent production companies, leading charities, sports organisations and the music industry.    He remains involved in radio, most notably as Executive Producer of the Radio Academy Gold Award-winning Jamie Cullum show on BBC Radio 2. He makes documentaries and series for BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra, 2, 4, Five Live and 6 Music with the independent production company Folded Wing. A lifelong cyclist and bike racer, Ian is the producer and presenter of the Rouleur Magazine Podcast.
